Well, it’s official. The Highland Park Mayor, Michael D. Belsky is running for a second term. He is currently organizing his campaign, which includes focusing on past achievements and future goals. Some of the things he wants to see during his term is finding a permanent home for the fine arts in Highland Park, promoting the business district, helping the park district with its lakefront initiatives and increasing federal contributions to educate military dependents in local schools. Quite the tasks he is taking on, hopefully he will accomplish his goals. He will also continue the projects he is overseeing currently. As of now, nobody else is running against him, so it seems as though in 2007, Belsky will begin accomplishing his campaign goals and will continue running Highland Park as well as can be.

At Highland Park’s Music Gallery store last week, guitar lovers were honored with a chance to meet and listen to the top guitar maker Ren Ferguson from Gibson Guitar Corp., in a special exhibit exclusive to Highland Park.
Not only did they get to meet Ferguson, not to mention listen to his stories about making the guitars, but they were able to be in the presence of guitars Woodie Guthrie played on as well as Dwight Yoakam. There was also a display of master museum guitars and 30 to 40 of their catalogue and custom guitars.
Ren Ferguson was in the store for three days, drawing in a great crowd, according to the store owner Frank Glionna.
It was quite the honor for Highland Park to be selected for this special event, it was the only 2006 in-store appearance by Ferguson.
What I like the best about this guitar-fan’s treat, is that the store held the event in order to further educate those who are into guitars, about the importance and significance of owning and playing a guitar during a lifetime. Music is an important thing for people to learn and love, and it’s pretty amazing that Gibson is so willing to provide more reasons for people to understand that.
