On Nov. 28, concerned parents from Highland Park, Highwood, Bannockburn, Deerfield and Riverwoods fled to Highland Park High School’s auditorium to attend a meeting aimed at parental responsibility.  Drugs and alcohol were the main concern after a fatal car crash over homecoming weekend in Deerfield and the murder of Bernie Soya, who was allegedly killed in a drug-deal gone awry.

Many students came to the meeting, saying that the adult influence leaves a permanent imprint on children.

The meeting was a way to inform both parents and teenagers about the consequences of drugs and alcohol.  Several professionals were in attendance, including psychologist John Jochem, Lake County Circuit Court Judge Ray McKoski, and Deerfield Mayor Steve Harris.
