Highland Park High School alumnae start girls sports-camp

Athletic-inclined girls in Lake and northern Cook Counties are about to reep the benefits of a certain former Highland Park High School star team.  HPHS alumnae Barb Lazarus and Julie Kollada, who were sports-stars thirty years ago, have re-teamed to start an all-girls sports camp.

Game On! Sports Camp 4 Girls will debut in summer of 2007 at Lake Forest College.  The camp is the first Chicagoland private summer day camp simply devoted to females.  Girls in grades K-8 are welcome.

The camp has been underway for the past two years and was set into motion after the founders spoke with Marv Tuchman, founder of camp Hi-Five, a mostly boys camp.  After sending their son’s to the camp, they realized there was not an equivalent for girls in the area, so they decided to change that.

Many parents and young girls are extremely enthusiastic and pleased that an opportunity such as this is now available for girls.  Hopefully the camp will be a huge success and will encourage young girls to continue with athletics in the future.

Tuesday’s day at the polls brings a new face to Lake County

Posted by Meagan on Nov 08 2006 | Tagged as: News

Democratic challenger Mark Curran, a Waukegan attorney and former prosecutor, defeated Republican Sheriff Gary Del Re last night by a 56 to 44 percent margin for Lake County Sheriff.   Del Re has been sheriff since 1996.
In related news, U.S. Rep. Mark Kirk of Highland Park was re-elected to a fourth term in Congress last night, defeating Democratic challenger Dan Seals.

Tuesday was a good day for the Democrats in Illinois and throughout the country, as they have taken over the House majority.
