Highland Park Report

Highland Park’s Congressman Mark S. Kirk, R-10th, is one of two elected officials, and the only recent elected official to tour the facility of Opportunity, Inc. in Skokie.  Opportunity, Inc., is making efforts to secure more document destruction business, including outreach programs for residents at local banks, and education for elected officials who can talk about their services to others.   The facility is located at 1200 Old Skokie Road.  Kirk toured the facility on Oct. 5 for an hour, meeting with employees and discussing work.  U.S. Sen. Richard J. Durbin, D-Ill has also visited.
Opportunity Inc, recently celebrated their 30th anniversary on Oct. 18.  They have been adding document destruction services to its services as its long-time medical packaging services are sent overseas by clients.  They generate $3.5 million in annual revenue, with just 65 employees, 44 of which have disabilities.  They offer secure document destruction services of confidential information to local businesses and government offices (just what Illinois politicians are always trying to get away with).

The company is a good-hearted one, and due to Kirk’s friendly visit, they will begin seeing new customers and clients through his influential word-of-mouth.

Well, it’s official.  The Highland Park Mayor, Michael D. Belsky is running for a second term.  He is currently organizing his campaign, which includes focusing on past achievements and future goals.  Some of the things he wants to see during his term is finding a permanent home for the fine arts in Highland Park, promoting the business district, helping the park district with its lakefront initiatives and increasing federal contributions to educate military dependents in local schools.  Quite the tasks he is taking on, hopefully he will accomplish his goals.  He will also continue the projects he is overseeing currently.  As of now, nobody else is running against him, so it seems as though in 2007, Belsky will begin accomplishing his campaign goals and will continue running Highland Park as well as can be.
