I wish I did. It doesn t get much better than ice cream or frozen yogurt in the summer time. It s the social event of every summer evening and a good excuse to clock in those extra miles on the Green Bay Trail. For some reason ice cream places in Highland Park either hit or miss.
Of course, the town favorite is Dairy Queen but how is it that Ben&Jerry s didn t make it and the old fashion Baskin&Robbins had to go and even Cold Stone didn t last much longer than a lick. Aside from DQ its Love s. While I appreciate the efforts made to provide a low-cal treat, in most cases its not worth it. The last time I ordered one I think it was Strawberry it tasted like cold air. Flavorless and empty in the middle of the swirl. I guess it s the toppings that help the frozen stuff take on a personality. Sorry to complain its just hard to believe that in a town so picky about its food that this is what s left. Its probably easier and more reliable to go to Sunset and get something from the frozen novelty section.

We are soooo lucky to have what we have in Highland Park. Resources like The Family Network, a Family Focus Center is a perfect example. The Family Network is a not-for-profit, non-sectarian, resource and support agency for families with children from birth through three years of age. It provides parent support, social and educational programs, and child-development activities. The aim here is to strengthen family relationships and help families connect with each other — and with other community services and resources. Its welcoming to all and is accessible to those with physical challenges and regardless of ability to pay or geographic location. The mission is to promote the well being of children from birth by supporting and strengthening their families in and with their communities.
Family Network has two core programs to serve parents and their infants, toddlers, and preschoolers: The Parent/Child Drop-In Center and Right From The Start. A recent addition to the agency’s programs is the After School Activity Program (ASAP), a collaborative effort with North Shore School District 112.
The space is centrally located by the Highland Park Presbyterian Church and includes a parent’s lounge and lending book/video library, three supervised playrooms (newborn - 1 year, 1 year - 2 1/2 years, 2 1/2 years - 4 years), an plus an indoor gym.
